SciQuest to Host Procurement Symposium for Government Executives
Back to News ReleasesThe half-day symposium, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, will be held at The Inn at Penn and offer best practices and quickly adoptable strategies that have serious impact on the bottom line. Attendees will hear from recognized leaders who are on the path to realizing significant results.
"These tough economic times mean that traditional ways of managing spend will not provide the cost savings and efficiency required for government to perform without impacting programs," said Joshua Rose, director of product marketing at SciQuest. "This symposium brings together thought leaders that will share insights to help the attendees do more with less and take government procurement to the next level."
During the comprehensive program, starting at 9:00 a.m., attendees will have the opportunity to hear how the City of Philadelphia's largest private employer took control of its institution-wide spending. The University of Pennsylvania's Chief Procurement Officer Ralph Maier and Director of eBusiness Vira Homick will share details of the University's Cost Containment Project, which is well on its way to exceed the project's goal of saving $50 million in four years.
"Procurement has the unique opportunity to move from a cost center to a revenue generator," Maier said. "For those organizations facing tough budget cuts, that can mean the difference between continuing or canceling a program or service. Now is the time to push for change and make the most of this economic downturn with new policies and procedures that will have a positive impact on the bottom line for years to come."
The State of Georgia's Gina Tiedemann, director of customer advocacy for the Department of Administrative Services, will share details of Georgia's procurement transformation that started with three keys to success: people, process and technology. The State's innovative approach to bring spending under management in one transparent system has the potential to increase the value of taxpayers' dollars and fundamentally change how governments and municipalities procure the goods and services they need.
