CARY, N.C., December 17, 2007 - SciQuest, Inc., the global leader in helping academic and research-centric organizations realize the potential of strategic procurement, today announced that AmSurg, America's largest publicly held operator of ambulatory surgery centers, has selected SciQuest's eprocurement solution to automate purchasing across its 170 ambulatory surgery centers.
AmSurg Corp. (NASDAQ: AMSG) develops, acquires and operates practice-based surgery centers in partnership with physician practice groups throughout the United States. In addition to eliminating its paper-based methods and increasing efficiencies through eprocurement technology, AmSurg aims to ensure that the company's purchasing dollars are being spent with its preferred list of contracted suppliers.
"The move away from paper-based purchasing to eprocurement through SciQuest will be key in helping AmSurg strategically manage spending and reduce costs across our surgery centers," said Todd Hamilton, associate vice president of supply chain management at AmSurg. "In addition to SciQuest's proven success with other large healthcare, research institutions and universities, we were impressed by the company's product capabilities, supplier enablement services and the expertise of its people, who clearly understood the needs of our business."
SciQuest's eprocurement solution will provide unprecedented visibility into enterprise-wide purchasing and spend management practices so that AmSurg can monitor compliance to contracts, reduce purchasing of higher priced, off-contract products and enable its staff to easily find and purchase the medical products and services they need.
"AmSurg's business and technical goals for solving its procurement and supplier enablement challenges perfectly aligned with our expertise and market leadership in addressing those issues for customers in similar environments," said Stephen Wiehe, president and CEO of SciQuest. "Not only will AmSurg's surgery centers benefit on the bottom line by managing spending with procurement automation, its centers will be freed from the inefficient and time-consuming administrative tasks associated with traditional procurement processes."
A full range of SciQuest's procurement applications will be used to automate the procure-to-payment process - from its intuitive online shopping platform that lets users easily browse and purchase items from preferred suppliers, to streamlined electronic management of requisition, order and contract workflow, as well as invoicing and receiving. The SciQuest solution will also be integrated with AmSurg's SmartStream financial system, giving their financial managers the ability to monitor and track spending in real time.
"We look forward to the savings and efficiencies that will be gained through eprocurement," added Hamilton. "Initially we aim to capture up to 70 percent of spending with our preferred suppliers, a realistic goal for us now that the entire process will be automated through SciQuest."
